PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Summer swimming is truly a sport for the entire family.  The MCSL is run by volunteers.  Apart from the professional coaches, all of the teams in the MCSL are also run by volunteers, as are all of the meets.  There are plenty of jobs to be done, and plenty of ways for parents to help out.  There are opportunities to help out on non-meet days by helping to plan spirit events or assisting with computer records.  On meet days, parent volunteers run the show, doing everything from refereeing and judging the events to timing to selling food.  Your support is vital.  In fact, the meets do not happen without your involvement.  No matter what you are interested in, there is a job for you.

For each home meet, we need:

1 Referee ***

2 Stroke & Turn Judges ***

1 Clerk of Course

1 Asst. Clerk

1 Computer Operator

1 Asst. Computer Operator

1 Head Timer

9 Timers

2-3 Ribbon Writers

3-5 volunteers to handle food sales

For each away meet, we need:

 1 Starter ***

2 Stroke & Turn Judges ***

1 Clerk of Course

1 Asst. Clerk

1 Computer Operator

1 Asst. Computer Operator

1 Asst. Head Timer

9 Timers

2-3 Ribbon Writers

***  Certain jobs (Referee, Starter, Stroke & Turn Judge) require certification.  Training is provided free of charge by the MCSL just prior to the beginning of the summer season.   These workshops are generally quick and offer a great way to learn more about the strokes your child will be swimming.  Once you’ve mastered the rules for a legal breaststroke kick, it’s as if the blinders have come off.  You will never look at swimming the same way again.

If you are unable to volunteer on meet days, there are plenty of other ways to help out.  The Reps and the Volunteer coordinators will have information on this as the season progresses.
